How to Always Have Unlimited Motivation to Reach For Your Goals

by Bamboo Forest

Are you on a mission in this life?

If you answered no to the above, you’re mistaken. Everyone’s on a mission.

The definition of life is ‘the mission you fulfill while you have breath’.

Your mission is the path you travel, the choices you make.

The only ones not on a mission are beneath ground.

You Can’t Not  Make a Decision About Your Life

Anthony Robbins writes:

“If you don’t make decisions about how you’re going to live, then you’ve already made a decision, haven’t you? You’re making a decision to be directed by the environment instead of shaping your own destiny.” [Bold emphasis mine]

So while I say you’re on a mission, I didn’t say it’s necessarily a wise or inspiring one. And I’m not here to tell you what constitutes that. That’s not my job nor am I a guru. I’m merely pointing out that you can’t escape the fact that you’re on a mission, and with every thought and deed you choose you’re filling the pages of your life.

What book will you have written at the conclusion of your life? Will it be one where you made you and others better? Or will it be one that paints a different picture? You are the author of those pages and you decide the outcome.

And don’t dwell on the past because the pages of your life are being written now. Distraction from the now is to be avoided. In the course of even a single day, the good you can do for yourself and others is immeasurable.

Now that we’ve established that you’re on a mission–how, then, can you find the motivation you need to keep making enlightened, powerful and inspiring actions that will enhance your life and the lives of others?

Sometimes you just don’t feel the motivation to be proactive. It’s nowhere to be found. How in the world can you be expected to stay motivated under those circumstances?

Technique to Have Unlimited Motivation

While there are many techniques you can use to boost motivation, I’d like to share one that you will always have within you:

When you’re not feeling motivated to take action to accomplish something meaningful and worthwhile in your life, simply believe that your enlightened self, your higher power, or even your deceased self would want you to fulfill the objective regardless of lacking motivation!

The above is a simple agreement that when you’re not feeling motivated, you don’t need any other reason to take action than that’s what something greater than yourself would want you to do. The deepest recess of your soul would want you to do it even if in the moment you’re not completely aligned with that wiser part of yourself.

It’s without question, though, that following the enlightened path will give you lasting fulfillment that opting not to won’t. That itself is worth it!

Sometimes a little pain goes a long, long way:

“We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.” ~Jim Rohn

Whatever you’re trying to do, whether it’s approaching the opposite sex, maintaining a diet, or working on your character traits, just remember you can always find the necessary motivation to move forward. Something greater would want you to do it even if that just means your deceased self.

But you’re NOT deceased. You’re alive NOW. And you can take any actions you choose now.

Make them enlightened ones.

Hi Bamboo Forest,

I fully agree with you that everyone is on a mission in life. It is not something we can avoid or run away from. Whether we like it or not, whether we admit to it or not, this is how it is. So it is up to us to take responsibility for our lives and do what we must.

For me motivation comes from living for others. When you have a responsibility to someone else, you cannot let anything stop you from fulfilling your goals. Even if you are facing great odds, you still have to press forward no matter what.

Thanks for sharing!

@ The Vizier: Living for others is a superb motivation. Thanks for including that reason to be motivated. One we should all be cognizant of all the time!

Good stuff here Ryan.

We are responsible for our actions, and even for our lack of action which itself is an action, or choice.

For me this idea is incredibly empowering because it’s up to me and no else to live the life I want.

Hi Bamboo,

‘Distraction from the now’ is a concept worth exploring, I think.

As we go through life, all the choices we make and the actions we take can seem to be random, without any over-arching framework holding them together. I guess that’s why it’s difficult to make sense of what our mission actually is.

In business, it is recommended that organizations spend time developing a mission against which all choices made and actions taken are judged- everything has to contribute towards achieving the mission.

Setting our own mission can give us that missing framework to help guide us through life in a much clearer direction.

@ Alex: Your attitude is very empowering. Not always easy to internalize it.

@ Scott: That sounds like a great idea to take an entire post. Very good point, everything we do either takes us closer to an outcome that we ultimately want or further away.

That being said, we should know what we want and understand how our actions influence the outcome.
